The Image of America

This festival — organized by Joe Szabo and endorsed by First Lady Barbara Bush — was the first censorship-free media event in the Communist Block. It attracted participants from thirty-five countries, while the exhibition itself represented seventy-two. The National Fine Art Gallery, housed in the former Royal Palace, was one of the most prestigious venues ever for a showing of political satire anywhere in the world.
